Immediately before Shogun Assassination Arc [chapter 501]Species:
Demisexual. Isaburo originally was a part of an arranged marriage, though ended up falling head over heels for his wife as they grew to know each other. As she assisted him in bettering his ‘communication’ skills, he grew more attached. Since her death, he’s not been with anyone - male or female. He’s not a man who seems too caught up within sexuality or gender preferences - and seems to grow close with those who actually take the moment to make an emotional connection with him, leading to the idea that he has more of an emotional preference rather than gender preference.History: Wiki PageAppearance: His typical appearance
is also fairly accurate . Personality: ”They say he has an incredible amount of faith from the Bakufu and is called the “Monster of Three Heavens” or something.”
Isaburo Sasaki is a man who is born from a well-off family and will not hesitate to remind those around him of his status as an elite. He is the eldest son of the Sasaki family, a prestigious name in wealth and power within Edo. He is fiercely respected by his subordinates and is seen as a force to be reckoned with by his enemies. Isaburo himself takes painstaking care to plan through his and his organizations movements, and is devoted to keeping his intentions and goals vague to most those around him – even if it means painting himself as an ugly figurehead for a corrupt government. He is not afraid to wear the label of a villain, and will follow his set path with his sights set on his goals.
The Monster of Three Heavens is a title given to him from those who have worked with him and refers to his adeptness with three weapons: sword, gun, and pen. This ensures that he not only holds the title of an elite, but also the skills and abilities expected of someone in his league. He prides himself on this image, and does not stray from this straight-laced visage unless through text messaging, which is an entire monster beyond any heavens he's touched on.”It would be nice if, rather than straight-laced like you, our child were born like that boy.”
Upon first impression, anyone could pick out that Isaburo was a man of the elite. He displays his pedigree in his mannerisms, which are precise and yet polite. He is a man of few words, though the words he chooses to use are typically exactly what the higher-ups wished to hear. He addresses those around him with an air of formality, even when he happens to be insulting them or bragging of his own abilities.
He keeps a calm face on at all times, even in perilous situations such as being stabbed or when others attempt to provoke him. His expression rarely changes from its deadpan (or as Nobume refers to as 'dim-witted') default, and even when caught by surprise he manages to have an impressive handle on just how he expresses his emotions outwardly.
This image speaks volumes to both his higher-ups and his subordinates and gains him a great deal of respect both as the heir to the Sasaki family and as the chief of the Mimawarigumi.”In order to preserve his own dignity as a samurai, he worked out a plan to deceive the heavens.”
While he puts on the airs of being a top affiliate of the Hitotsubashi faction and the Bakufu, Isaburo is actually revealed to be a rebel within the organization. He stood up against plans the Tendoushuu and the Naraku had put forth, in order to preserve the Shinsengumi – whom had begun to win his affection due to the strength of their hearts and souls, which followed more closely with the spirit of “Samurai.” Though his rebellion cost him the lives of his wife and daughter – which then spurred his own plan for revenge.
He builds himself up to have strong ties with the government and the other organizations and publicly wishes to be affiliated with them – though in reality he also wishes to quell a rebellion that would take the corrupted government down. This goal, which would cost him his own life as well, is one that he carefully calculates so that it may come to fruition. He wishes to bring down the government and the era of brutality and wishes to purge himself as well for being unable to protect those he found important to him.
Because of this, many of his actions are underhanded or even have double meanings. He's a very calculated man (though many things also happen that are out of his calculations, and he is upfront about admitting to these; i.e. Shigeshige attempting to resign from his position as shogun during the Courtesan of a Nation arc.), and like a master of chess plans moves long before they happen – taking into account the personalities involved and hoping that they react in the way that he understands.
He is secretive of his plans as well, not wanting to drag innocent bystanders along with him and even warning the Shinsengumi to stray away from politics so they would not be attached to the government for when the forces of rebellion came to claim the corrupted state. He does not wish to be understood by those around him and is comfortable with others thinking of him as a nefarious personality with little capacity for true sympathy. After all, the most despicable his image – the more fuel rebel groups would have to feed their discontent.”Why do you point your swords at Isaburo? Why is only Isaburo...”
Though he plays a cold and formal facade, there are many clues that point towards Isaburo holding a great deal of empathy for others around him. He finds himself working to foil a plot that would have caused the rising Shinsengumi to be framed for a heinous crime and working to free orphans who had been used and trained by the Naraku once he learned of their existence.
Time and time again this ordinary man has reached out to protect good elements within the world, and hopes to change the world from this corrupt era they've found themselves in. He does not admit to showing or following this path of a 'good man,' as this sort of reveal would hinder the plans he has already set in motion – though beyond his ambiguously neutral or even evil facade; he has been working for the greater good during the entire course of the plot at the cost of his own reputation and livelihood.
Another glimpse to the care and consideration Isaburo gives in his life can be seen when he is attempting to find a name for his newborn daughter. He goes through many iterations – attempting to find the perfect name that will embody their daughters potential in life, from having more friends than he does to being obstinant like her mother – until he finally accepts the name “Nobume” and says that he will simply believe in her to do the rest, as she is an “Elite girl, after all.” He puts so much thought into this name that the floor of his office is littered with dozens of crumpled, rejected submissions and he admits to simply having too many ideas in his head to get straight before brushing it off as simply being “too elite.”“I will pay for damages, scooter repairs, and other various feeds. Please just write any sums you would like me to pay for on the back of this flyer. It would be a bit troublesome to have to slowly gather them all together later.”
Though Isaburo does have a great deal of conscience, he is not skilled in interpersonal communication with others. He does not reveal his motivations or feelings to others, causing him to come off as abrasive and arrogant to those around him. He also will look down on the common folk and tease them (such as asking Gintoki to ask for compensation on the back of a sales flyer) with little regard for how such remarks might come off to other people.
He also mentons to Hijikata that he is quite the fan of the Shinsengumi and claims to have modeled his uniform off of theirs. While there is some truth to this statement, it also comes off as rather sarcastic – which leaves room for just how “sincere” Isaburo was when he was speaking to Hijikata.
Often, when talking with others, Isaburo does tell the truth – though he will leave things intentionally vague or spin them in a way so that the other person becomes hostile or aggravated with his assertions. He freely mentions that he doesn't have many friends, though he does seem to enjoy communicating with those around him.”P.S. Worried about your well being, please e-mail me, k?”
Though he is terribly at communication at face value, his personality seems to do a complete 180 when it comes to speaking in text messages. His words and intentions become much sweeter through texting and he often clogs up people's message boxes with his well-wishes and aggressive attempts to communicate. He even mentions to Nobume that “No matter how elite I am, I may sulk if you continue to ignore my messages, k?”
He sends messages pertaining to the weather and hoping for other people's success. He'll send pictures and smiley faces in his messages and generally pesters those who he is actually able to e-mail. He even speaks in a more 'cutesy' sort of way and wishes to be called Sabu-chan (and typically enters his contacts in with strange, cute names such as Toshi-tan or Nobutasu). He even speaks of this sort of thing, though when it comes out of his mouth – it never seems quite as sincere as he must intend for it, as the nicknames can be perceived as a clear lack of respect.
Even when others destroy their cellphones in frustration, he is more than willing to provide them with a new one and continue their conversation without taking true offense to the action. He even will mention that they should take time to actually attempt to respond to him, or else they could be considered 'rude.'Character RelationshipsNobume Imai
is Isaburo's vice-chief and is often seen with him. He took her in after she attempted (though failed) to save his family and gave her the name of his deceased daughter after making her his second in-command. He claims he used her as a tool for his revenge, though it is later revealed that he thought of her as a daughter. He often uses donuts to bribe her, though he remains straight-faced even as she attaches herself to him and nearly mauls him over a donut.Isao Kondo
iss a man Isaburo names as a threat to him, though in reality he admires the other man's personality deeply. It is Kondo's leadership and approach to life that helps to convince Isaburo to work towards saving the Shinsengumi – and Isaburo's wife jokingly mentions that she wishes their unborn child would display Kondo's traits rather than Isaburo's. Toshirou Hijikata
is a thorn in Isaburo's side, though that is not necessarily a bad thing. Isaburo takes amusement in Hijikata's temperment and enjoys provoking him. He sees the young man as a worthy opponent and would love nothing more for this young man to cut his way through to his dreams, even if it meant trampling over Isaburo's to do so. He admires the fire within Toshirou's soul and the position Toshirou was able to play for his half-brother, Testunosuke.Tetsunosuke Sasaki
is Isaburo's half-brother, though Isaburo displays little love or respect for the child of his father's mistress. He openly admits that he thinks Tetsunosuke's existance sullies the Sasaki family name and is embarrassed by how his brother became a 'good for nothing' within society. Though despite these claims, he sends Tetsunosuke to the Shinsengumi to see if they could straighten him up. He outwardly mentions that they could force Tetsunosuke to commit seppuku and they would receive no complaint from Isaburo – though it is very well possible that he did hope that his brother could be reformed.
He had severed his tie with his brother, though in the end – he does save Tetsunosuke's life from the hands of the Naraku at the cost of his own, despite having mentioned in Baragaki that his own life was worth much more than Tetsunosuke's pathetic excuse for an existance. In the end, it would seem that Isaburo showed his true colors for his brother – accepting that his half-brother had made changed to become a true samurai amongst the Shinsengumi.Abilities:
✘ Simply being an Elite
- Isaburo won't let others forget his status. Sometimes it seems as if he is almost challenging himself to see how many times he can refer to himself as an elite in one sentence. He is high-born and talented and simply wouldn't want anyone to forget such a thing!
- One of the 'three heavens' in which he has apparently mastered, Isaburo displays an astute knowledge of the sword and can dual wield a sword and gun with great ease. He has the ability for incredibly precise cuts, such as - curiously enough - just what sort of cut would be lethal or non-lethal.
- Another of the "three heavens" in which he has mastered, Isaburo seems to greatly favor his gun. In fact, he tends to get a little trigger happy (such as emptying three clips in someone's direction for 'funsies') and will rush to fire whenever he can. He displays immaculate aim and hits (or misses) whatever he intends to hit (or miss.)
✘ The Pen
- The last of the "three heavens" he reigns over - Isaburo is adept at writing exactly what needs to be said when it comes to diplomatic affairs. He is a master of negotiating terms and displays a deep understanding of the government and its systems.
- From orchestrating his grand scheme, to making his allies, to understanding those around him - Isaburo is a master of setting up schemes. Things rarely happen that he has not accounted for, and he is seldom caught off-guard. This planning also carries over to his way of combat - as he was able to intentionally miss a shot at Hijikata that instead set a barrel of oil aflame. This flaming barrel exploded and send Hijikata flying straight into his blade so that he could quickly render his target incapacitated.
- For an old man, he surely texts at the speed of light. He strikes the keys of his phone with reckless abandon that could surely win the respect and admiration of other cellphone addicts, hm? ヾ(*｀∀´*)ゞOther: ( •̀ᄇ• ́)ﻭ✧SAMPLES;First Person: Username: Sabuchan
Good evening to all of you out there! To think that there is such an expansive network at our fingertips now, this is certainly quite the advancement from simple SMS. I could barely contain myself, so please be gentle with me as I learn how to use this. ｍ（．＿．）ｍ
Though, in the meantime, I did have a little question I wished to ask all of you out there. Would any of you be interested in being a mail-buddy of mine? ♡✧( ु•⌄• ) I do not have many friends, so do find it in your heart to forgive me if I appear to be coming off as too eager. I simply am excited at the notion of hearing from any of you and being able to check in.
If interested, please feel free to respond to me - though I will also include my number if you wish to just jump straight into it.
I so look forward to hearing from you, k? (ﾉ´ヮ´)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧[And he, a full grown man well in his forties, presses send to release a message that seems utterly impossible to have come from his cold, elite fingers. He does so without the flutter of a lash or a mischievous smile on his face.
Instead it is delivered with all the seriousness as one would send out a public notice or a status report.]Third Person:
Though this house was anything but elite, Isaburo would not accept its interior falling into the same state as countless other commoners' homes. For a layman, a layer of dust or a few curry drips on the kitchen-counter would surely be excusable as they could not comprehend such imperfections (after all, their lives were already riddled in them!). Though for a man with an elite eye? Oh, it simply wouldn't do. It would be inexcusable of him to allow his residence to fall into such disrepair. An elite must always be aware of their image after all, and it was truly the burden a man like him had to hold upon his shoulders.
Without hired help in this place, this job fell squarely into his lap - which means that he was the only one who could dawn an apron and rubber gloves in order to appropriately give their kitchen a proper scrubbing.
And as he works a sponge into a lather, an idea comes to his head! He removes his rubber gloves and pulls out his phone before taking a picture of the soapy sponge and gloves. He texts the following to Hijikata. You are at the store, ne? Please be sure to pick up a proper air-freshener for the kitchen! Lately I feel it has begun to smell of mayonnaise, k? (*・～・*)
The screen of his phone flashes and the message is sent. He is about to return to the work before him, but can seem to put down his phone.Ah, I'm just kidding of course! The mayonnaise does not smell so pungent. Though please do take care to grab an air-freshener. What sort of scent do you like, Toshi-nyan? Please e-mail me back.
Ah, there. That amendment was much better. His gaze turns back to the sink before another idea hits him and he has to do just one more text message before he returns to work.I am hoping the kitchen will wow you when you return! Even if we are in a common home, we should still treat it as if it is elite, ne? So please, when you return, do not track in any mud!
Wait, one more. Not that I do not appreciate the dirty, common work you do! It is so befitting of you. Please keep up the good work and e-mail me back so I know that you have read this!
P.S. I like the smell of clean linen! Perhaps you could grab that scent, k? ( ´ ▽ ` )ﾉ
No, no this next one would be the last. Certainly.I am praying for your safe return! Do take care not to get lost, k?
A string of messages comes and goes, though he never once receives a reply. It's almost disheartening, though Isaburo simply makes a note to scold the other when he returns. Sure, sure a man could be tight-lipped in person, but every man needed an outlet.
Though, perhaps, Hijikata simply wasn't a good e-mail buddy in the first place.
And with that thought, he closes his phone and takes back to his original endeavor of scrubbing what little bit of dirt had managed to manifest itself within their kitchen area. OTHER;Housing Request?:
